Smith Hall /Playmakers Theater holds significance through both design and association; and is one of two National Historic Landmarks on the Chapel Hill Campus.

As a part of planning for a full interior renovation, the Raleigh Firm of Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee, PA contracted with the historic architecture firm of Joseph K. Oppermann –Architect, of Winston Salem, NC and engineering group of Sigma Engineered Solutions, PC of Morrisville, NC.

Construction Documents for the project will be ready during summer of 2008 and work should start shortly thereafter.
